A supremacia em corridas já havia sido posta em dúvida nos últimos compromissos. Faltava pôr fim ao domínio da RBR dos treinos classificatórios. Com o cronômetro zerado, Lewis Hamilton, da McLaren, esteve perto de conseguir o feito em Budapeste. Líder absoluto, mas pressionado pelos últimos resultados, Sebastian Vettel, no entanto, soube esperar. Acelerou em sua última volta e impôs, na marra, sua oitava pole na temporada. Sebastian Vettel disse durante a semana que correr em casa era um incentivo a mais. Afirmou que, na busca pela primeira vitória em seu país, não havia pressão. O líder do campeonato, no entanto, foi apenas um coadjuvante no emocionante GP da Alemanha deste domingo. Fora da briga pela vitória durante toda a corrida, o alemão viu Lewis Hamilton tomar o papel de protagonista e dominar o circuito de Nürburgring praticamente do início ao fim. Sebastian Vettel said during the week to run at home was an added incentive. He said that in searching for first win at home, there was no pressure. The leaders, however, was only a supporting role in the thrilling German Grand Prix on Sunday. Outside the fight for victory throughout the race, the German saw Lewis Hamilton take the lead role and dominate the Nürburgring almost from start to finish. On bright days, the McLaren driver led the best in the race with Fernando Alonso, Ferrari, and Mark Webber's Red Bull Racing, and won their second win of the season, giving a new twist to the drivers' championship.

Alonso, que chegou a liderar em alguns momentos da corrida, levou a Ferrari mais uma vez ao pódio, em segundo lugar. Com pouco combustível para ir aos boxes no fim da corrida e com medo de ser punido por não ter o suficiente para a inspeção, o espanhol acenou e pegou carona com Webber, que perdeu a ponta logo na largada, teve de se contentar com a terceira posição, e, embora tenha se mantido perto dos dois primeiros, pouco ameaçou. Por conta do passeio pelo circuito, os dois devem receber uma advertência. O melhor duelo, no entanto, foi pelo quarto lugar. Apesar da pressão de Vettel, Felipe Massa se defendia como dava e segurava os 12 pontos para a classificação. Na última volta, porém, em sua terceira ida aos boxes, a Ferrari demorou, e o alemão tomou a posição, cruzando a linha de chegada em quarto, fora do pódio pela primeira vez desde o GP da Coreia, no ano passado. Já o brasileiro terminou em quinto, à frente de Adrian Sutil, da Force India, e da dupla da Mercedes, Nico Rosberg e Michael Schumacher.
- Foi uma corrida muito difícil. O mais difícil foi a largada. Eu larguei muito bem, mas acabei tomando uma espremida na primeira curva. Depois, lógico, a corrida foi muito boa. Pena pelo que aconteceu no final - disse Massa, em entrevista à TV brasileira após o GP.
Das principais equipes, Jenson Button foi quem levou a pior. O piloto da McLaren precisou abandonar a prova na 36ª volta, por problemas hidráulicos. Rubens Barrichello, da Williams, também não completou a corrida, devido a um vazamento de óleo de seu motor.
- Eu queria continuar, mas os engenheiros disseram que o motor ia quebrar. Eu ainda me mantive na pista mesmo com eles mandando eu sair, mas não deu. Não tinha o que fazer, tive que parar - disse o brasileiro.
Com o resultado, Sebastian Vettel se mantém na liderança do campeonato, com 216 pontos. Seu companheiro de equipe, Mark Webber, vem em segundo, com 139.                                                           The RACE(A Corrida)

With the rain that fell in the morning at the Nürburgring, just seconds from the start, few teams had decided which tires to use on output. With the dry conditions, however, most chose soft tires for the race.

The start was moved. Surprise Saturday's qualifying, Lewis Hamilton took the poor output of Mark Webber and took the lead before the first turn. Fernando Alonso was forced to pass and the third position, which was Sebastian Vettel. Felipe Massa tried to gain positions on the outside but was hampered by a restraint of the German and was eventually overtaken by Nico Rosberg, Mercedes.

Back then, Schumacher won two positions and jumped from tenth to eighth. Rubens Barrichello took advantage of a touch of Paul di Resta to Nick Heidfeld in turn three to gain three positions and stay 11.

Soon on the second lap, Alonso was wrong when braking, escaped and returned to lose the third position for Vettel. Not for long. Na metade da prova, Mark Webber foi pela segunda vez aos boxes. A RBR demorou um pouco mais, e o australiano acabou perdendo a liderança para Hamilton, que também fez sua segunda parada. Em duelo sensacional, Alonso chegou a assumir a ponta depois de voltar dos boxes, mas, com os pneus frios, não resistiu à pressão do inglês e foi ultrapassado.
Na 36ª volta, Jenson Button, que acabara de ultrapassar Rosberg na briga pela sexta posição, abandonou a corrida por problemas hidráulicos em sua McLaren. Em quinto, Vettel fez sua segunda parada, antes de Massa, que permaneceu na pista. A mais de 16s do trio da dianteira, o brasileiro apenas torcia por um erro dos rivais.
Na segunda parada, no entanto, a Ferrari demorou, e Vettel tirou a diferença para Massa. O líder do campeonato, então, passou a pressionar o brasileiro, que, mesmo com os pneus frios, conseguiu segurar a quarta posição. Dos boxes, os engenheiros da McLaren pediam para Hamilton tentar manter os pneus médios até o limite, já que, com eles, o inglês conseguia ter um ritmo melhor que os rivais, com compostos duros.
